Physician Referral Information

Ontario Pain Center (OPC) – Brantford

Why Refer to OPC

OPC is a specialty clinic focused on evidence-based interventional and regenerative pain medicine. Our mandate is to help patients regain function through targeted procedures, judicious pharmacology, and structured self-management—not by escalating prescriptions. Referring clinicians who value multimodal care and wish to minimize long-term drug dependence will find a collaborative partner here.

Which Patients Benefit Most

Please consider referring when a patient meets all of the following:

  1. Persistent, function-limiting pain (≥ 3 months) that remains uncontrolled despite appropriate first-line measures in primary care or physiotherapy.

  2. Motivation to participate actively in their own recovery (exercise, lifestyle modification, procedural follow-up).

Typical referral categories include:

  • Refractory migraine and occipital neuralgia

  • Cervical, thoracic, or lumbar facet-mediated pain

  • Complex regional pain syndrome, peripheral neuropathic pain

  • Fibromyalgia with significant functional compromise

  • Degenerative shoulder, hip, or knee pain not yet surgical—or persisting post-surgery

  • Candidates for regenerative injections (Perineural Injection Therapy, prolotherapy) or radio-frequency ablation

Note: While OPC may provide input on medication strategies as part of a broader pain management plan, its primary role is in addressing well-defined pain generators and complex cases that may benefit from procedural intervention.
